DECK & HULL:

VAKA AMA has Cobalt Blue gel-coat hull with a 3”boot stripe and black antifouling bottom paint.  A black rubber rubrail on each side protects hull sides from piles, pillars, and other hazards.  The cabin, decks, and cockpit are an offwhite gel-coat.  Nonslip surfaces in the cockpit, swimstep, side decks, and foredeck are molded-in diamond pattern.  An oval shaped Vetus louver is mounted in the starboard hull side over the engine air inlet.  1 ¼” polished stainless steel handrails run from the cockpit around the bow.  A stainless steel grab rail along the cabin top and a horizontal grab bar on the aft cabin bulkhead on each side further enhances crew safety when going forward.  A bow huge bow locker, running full beam is accessed through a gasketed and gutter hatch to starboard of the anchor windlass.  All large deck lockers are fitted with gas “hold open” struts and locking compression latches.

The Aspen C100 has a huge cockpit measuring 9’ long by 8’ wide; well suited to fishing or entertaining.  24” high bulwarks are topped with 10” high stainless steel handrails.  Two fish rod holders welded into the handrail support posts.  Two additional rod holders are flush mounted into the hull on each stern quarter.  A stainless steel and acrylic hinged gate and handrail located to starboard in the transom make stepping from the large swim platform to the cockpit a cinch.  To port and forward in the cockpit is a sink mounted in Corian topped cabinet.  A hot/cold mixer with pull out nozzle and hose can be used for cockpit showering with provision for a shower curtain and nozzle holder.  An additional hot/cold cockpit shower is located aft at the transom door for post swim rinsing on the swim platform.   A fridge is below the sink.  The hardtop and canvas overheads are extended well over the cockpit for protection of the forward cockpit from rain.  A custom full cockpit enclosure transforms the cockpit into an accommodation space when desired.

Other cockpit features include hanging hooks on the aft cabin side above the sliding window, a fold stainless steel/Corian table to port on the aft cabin bulkhead, Fusion stereo speakers, a fresh water hose bib, two overhead red/white LED dome lights, LED bulwark lights, a weatherproof switch panel, and a 12V outlet.  A removable varnished teak cockpit table, pedestal mounts aft where the Igloo marine cooler with cushion top serves as a seat.  Access to storage lockers and machinery spaces are located around the cockpit sides and sole.  Starting forward, a vented storage locker is located to starboard and forward in the cabinhouse bulkhead.  The outboard engine fits nicely in this locker.  Two weatherproof hatches open into storage cuddies in the starboard side bulwark.  A hinged hatch aft of the Igloo cooler accesses battery isolation switches a fuses.  The propane locker and start battery are located aft, to port in the transom and accessed through a large hinged hatch.  A fire extinguisher and storage for hoses is found in the aft port bulkhead locker.  The engine is accessed through a hatch in the starboard forward cabin sole.   A large fiberglass molding can be unscrewed and removed for major engine maintenance.   A hatch of the engine accesses the shaft seal, steering, and batteries.  Portside cabin sole hatches access auxiliary pumps, water heater, and storage space.  A 6.5 cubic foot baitwell/storage locker is located beneath a hatch in the forward/port cockpit sole.

ACCOMMODATION:

From the cockpit, one enters the accommodation space through a weather tight smoked acrylic, aluminum framed locking door offset to port.  A linear galley is to port, a raised dinette is to starboard.  The pilothouse area is forward.  A crew cabin/storage area is aft to port, just inside the cabin door.  The stateroom and head are accessed through a companionway to starboard and forward.  Headroom measures 6’ 5” throughout the interior.  The Wallus diesel cabin heater will keep the interior dry and warm during cold rain weather which sometimes prevails in the Salish Sea.

The Aspen C100 is finished with high quality materials including Burmese teak combined with durable soft goods to provide an elegant and rugged interior space able to stand up to years of use.  All cabinetry is constructed of solid Burmese teak or teak faced marine plywood.  The cabin sole is a synthetic teak/holy very resistant to scratching.  The overhead is of padded beige vinyl over marine plywood.  All lockers, doors, and cabinets positively close with pop out push button latches.  Fiddles on shelves and counters are appropriate for the dynamics of the sea.  The dinette upholstery was upgraded to light brown leather.  Ample overhead and task lighting is provided by red/white dome LED lights and LED adjustable reading lights.  110V and 12V outlets are located where needed.  Ventilation is excellent due to six overhead hatches, side and aft sliding windows, and hull side opening ports.  Insect screens are fitted for all opening hatches and sliders.  Snap in curtains are available for all windows, ports, and hatches.

The Pacific Northwest is a spectacular cruising ground and the Aspen C100 allows one to see all there is to be seen with it’s up galley and raised dinette.  The comfortably seats four.  An electric lift is fitted to the table pedestal, which lowers the table into a double berth.  A bank of three drawers is beneath the aft dinette seat.  Access to the starboard hull auxiliary machinery room is through a hatch in below the dinette sole.  A large locker below the inboard dinette sole is accessed through a hinged teak hatch inboard.  A locker with shelves is beneath the forward settee.

Just inside the cabin door, to port, is a counter level hinged teak hatch and opening to the crew cabin/storage room.  Two narrow hinged doors beneath the galley also open into this space if used as storage.  An upholstered mattress stretches the length of this single bunk.  A hanging bar is secured at the entrance for use as a hanging locker.  A dome light, 12V outlet, and fire extinguisher complete this space.

The galley runs along the port cabin side.  The countertop is Corian and stainless steel grab rails are fitted inboard along the counter edge.  A varnished teak backsplash is outboard.  The stove/oven has a Corian and sink have Corian covers.  The 16” x 11” x 8” deep stainless steel sink is fitted with a Moen faucet and pull out sprayer.  A double door storage cabinet is beneath the sink.  The helm chair hinges up out of the way for additional counter space.  The front opening refrigerator/freezer is beneath the helm seat.  An additional storage cabinet is outboard of the fridge through a plastic hatch beneath the helm seat.

Underway the pilothouse is the place to be.   Visibility is excellent.  Taylor Clear Curve tempered glass windows wrap-around the forward cabin with a narrow centerline mullion.  Windshield wiper/washers and overhanging visor will keep these clear and shaded.  Sliding side windows open adjacent the helm seat on each side.   A Bentley’s chair with fold down armrests and folding Al Garelick aluminum/teak foot rest will keep the skipper comfortable and secure for hours.  The copilot’s Bentley’s chair is to starboard and equipped with a footrest.  The forward dash console is a beige gel-coat finished fiberglass molding with select teak trim and holy surfaces  Three recessed stainless steel drink holders are well situated in the dash console.  Navigation, communication, entertainment, and systems control/monitoring equipment are well placed around the forward dash area.  A teak and holly hinged top “catch all” cuddy is forward in the dash on centerline.

A three step companionway to starboard leads to the starboard hull where the head is aft through a locking teak privacy door.  An electric flush head is aft.  A vanity with fiddled Corian counter is inboard with an oval stainless steel sink.  The sink mixer valve/faucet is fitted with a pull out nozzle for showering.  A snap in shower curtain and shower sump pump will keep shower water away from other portions of the head compartment.  A cabinet with teak sliders is outboard of the vanity counter.  A wide mirror is above the counter.  An open shelf with fiddle runs along the hull side outboard of the head.  A teak cabinet with shelves and two doors is aft of the head.  A teak towel bar, teak toilet paper holder, two dome lights, 110V duplex outlet, and opening hull side port complete this space.

The stateroom is forward in the starboard hull.  A king sized berth stretching across to the port hull measures 6’ wide by 6’ 9” long.  The divided 6” thick foam mattress is covered with high quality marine grade upholstery.  Ventilation mat under the mattress will keep condensation at bay.  A very large storage bin in the port hull is beneath the mattress.  A hinged teak step forward in the starboard hull makes accessing the bunk easy and opens to a hamper/storage bin.  Just forward of this step is a large teak locker with four shelves and an automatic light on the door.  An open shelf is on top of this locker.  A long teak shelf runs along the hull side beneath five chrome double coat hooks.  Another teak bookshelf/open cabinet is recessed into the forward bulkhead.  Stereo speakers, two overhead hatches, two cabinside ports, two dome lights, four reading lights, two 12V sockets,  two 110V outlets, and a USB outlet complete this stateroom.
